Magical Texts from the Cambridge Cairo Genizah Collection

Abstract

The fragments of books and documents in the Cairo Geniza, is well known, discovered at the ends of the twentieth century offers a multitude of materials for centuries that Jews and Arabs lived together. There are also prepared texts about magic which has existed as if it almost were an indispensable part of social life between such materials.

Texts in a deteriorated condition reflect the magical view of that period and giving information about the materials used and construction procedures of magical practices and language. With this paper is intended pointing to the importance in the magical research of these manuscripts and to inform about these texts the researchers who want to do research in this field and to contribute analyse and investigate of these texts. Cairo Geniza manuscripts are distributed to many of the world. The magical texts published by Cambridge University in the online system and besides these, the magical texts in the books prepared about these which are yet to be published online were taken into account and in case it deemed necessary the issues explained the with examples.

Cambridge Kahire Geniza Koleksiyonunda Büyüsel Metinler

Abstract

Kahire Geniza metinlerinin araştırmacılara sonsuz ve sınırsız bir bilgi hazinesi sunmasının yanı sıra Yahudi bilim adamlarının tarihinde çığır açan bir olay olarak kabul edilir. Kahire’nin Yahudiliğin en önemli merkezlerinden biri olması ve Doğu ve Batı arasında stratejik bir konuma sahip olmasından dolayı Geniza dokümanları İslam tarihi ve kültürü ve Yahudi tarihinin en önemli kaynakları arasında yer alır. Bu metinler Ortaçağ Mısır’ının yerli Yahudi toplulukları, Filistin Yahudi toplulukları ve Kuzey Afrika’nın Yahudi topluluklarının tarihi ve Yakın doğunun dışındaki topluluklarla ilişkileri hakkında verdiği bilgiler açısından merkezi bir öneme sahiptir. Burası Ortaçağ Yahudi toplumunu değil, aynı zamanda geç antik dönem Akdeniz büyüsünün tarihini aydınlatmak için de önemli bir yere sahiptir. Bu çalışma ile metot ve uygulamalar yönünden İslami gelenekteki büyü formüllerinden ve uygulamalarından farklılık göstermeyen bu elyazmalarının büyü araştırmaları alanındaki önemine işaret edilerek içerisinde büyüsel semboller, karakterler ve çeşitli gizemli kelime ve şekiller barındıran bu metinlerin araştırılmasına ve analizine katkı sağlamak amaçlanmıştır. Bu çalışma Dünya’nın birçok yerine yayılmış olan Geniza yazmalarının Cambridge Üniversitesindeki koleksiyonuyla sınırlandırılmıştır.
